Special Abilities[edit]

Appearance[edit]

The Phoenix looks a lot like a mix between an eagle, a peacock, and a swan and is covered in firey red and orange feathers. This bird is well-known for its beautiful appearance... most of the time.

Behavior[edit]

The Phoenix is a very rare bird that can often be found in the desert oases of Camelu. This creature prefers to feed on a diet of spices, figs, and morning dew, though they are fully capable of eating common birdseed. The phoenix is a gentle creature by nature that seems to refuse to kill any living creature, though some (like Princess Celestia's pet, Philomena) have been known to have a bit of a mischevious streak. In addition to its famous "rebirth through fire" ability, the phoenix is capable of enveloping itself in a protective coating of heat and flame so hot that virtually nothing can penetrate it, should the bird ever feel threatened.

The feathers and tears of the Phoenix are highly sought after for their unique healing properties. Phoenix tears are one of the few known antidotes to basilisk venom and healing brews made from Phoenix feathers are cabable of healing even broken bones in a matter of minutes.

Trivia[edit]

  • Every once in a while, however, the phoenix undergos a process of "renewing" itself. In the days leading up to this "rebirth," the phoenix starts to loose all of its feathers and becomes much uglier in appearance, resembling something like a long-necked, orange chicken. When the very last feather falls off its body, the Phoenix will suddenly seem to die before bursting into flames and turning to ash. Shortly after spontaeneously combusting, the Phoenix will dramatically reform itself from its own ashes and return to its normal, magnificent, adult form.
  • Like the Simurgh, the Phoenix is fully capable of passing through the Ley Lines completely unharmed and is believed to be a native of the Lost World.
  • Due to its rebirth ability (which is theorized to give it an unending life), the Phoenix is regarded as a symbol of eternal life throughout the Known World.
