The Elements of Harmony[edit]

The six Elements of Harmony, Generosity, Honesty, Kindness, Laughter, Loyalty and Friendship are the foundation of the Equestrian world and society. They keep the world from falling back into primal chaos, not only figuratively but literally. If not for the Elements, the world could not have been formed before time by the first Celestines from the ever-changing pristine aether. Each element was parted from its opposite to give structure to the primordial matter.

The Elements of Harmony were made manifest as six supernatural artifacts which are arguably the most powerful force in Equestria. No one knows exactly when, or how, the manifested Elements of Harmony came into being. What is known is that the Royal Alicorn Sisters found the Elements and used them to petrify Discord and end his reign of chaos. Most of the chimerical beings created by Discord and his lieutenants were banished into Tartaros by the first bearers of the Elements of Harmony, or withdrew into the deepest wilderness. Thus the Reign of Discord was ended and a harmonic world could prosper.

Later, Celestia used the same Elements to banish the fabled Nightmare Moon to the moon for one thousand years. Since then, the Elements faded into rumor until they were rediscovered in 1,334 AC by six ponies known as the Bearers of Harmony, who then used them to prevent Nightmare Moon's return during the Long Night and again, a year later (in 1 LR), to reseal Discord in his stone prison. Supposedly, the Elements of Harmony can only be used by beings with a significant amount of the respective virtues. Some believe that the Elements are capable of granting additional powers onto its bearers, such as the Bearer of Honesty being a living lie-detector, the Bearer of Loyalty being able to fill others with incredible determination, and the Bearer of Laughter being able to disregard the basic laws of physics and anatomy for the sake of being funny. They have been wielded on rare occasions, particularly during events marked by pandemonium and anarchy as a last resort to restore and enforce the balance of peace and order.

Generosity[edit]

Generosity represents a character’s willingness to give of themselves and/or go out of their way for someone else. While this can lead to a character giving too much and not knowing when they need to take a hard line with others, it also means that they tend to be the one who gets themselves into trouble this way. A character who is generous runs the risk of taking on more work, or giving more of themselves, than they can reasonably handle.

The element of Generosity is associated with the plentiful sea. Its discordant opposite is Greed.

The Element of Generosity manifests as a gold necklace with a purple diamond-shaped amethyst.

Generosity Traits[edit]

You are generous and giving, but many a times it is hard to be that way. If your friends need something you get it done right away even if it means giving up valuable time or your most prized possession. You still have the need to take care of yourself, but you also have the heart to give to those who have less than you.

Generosity Talent Trees:[edit]

  • Enchantment
  • Endowment

Honesty[edit]

Honesty represents a character’s dependability and forthright attitude, including their desire to be the one who can always be counted on for whatever is needed. In short, instead of directly reflecting a character not telling lies, honesty more refers to a character having a ‘true heart.’ While this can lead to a character trying to handle too many things (or too difficult things) on their own, it also means that they tend to never shy away from a challenge. A character who is honest runs the risk of biting off more than they can chew, but is usually highly responsible.

The element of Honesty is associated with the blooming earth. Its discordant opposite is Deception.

The Element of Honesty manifests as a gold necklace with an orange and green apple-shaped citrine.

Honesty Traits[edit]

You live by the truth and speak what's in your heart. You are honest even if it means getting punished. You may be a bit stubborn at times but nothing puts you in a bad mood. You tell the truth no matter what. Being truthful isn't always easy, but you try your hardest. And it is much easier than lying.

Honesty Talent Trees:[edit]

  • Empathy
  • Fortitude

Kindness[edit]

Kindness represents a character’s compassion for others and acceptance of others for who they are, as well as their care not to overstep their boundaries and impose their will over somepony else. In short, Kindness is trying to take care of others without being inconsiderate or forceful about it. While this can lead to timidity and/or pent up issues of anger, it also means that disagreements tend to be easily forgiven and resolved. A character who is kind runs the risk of being taken advantage of by others, and often is reluctant to leave their comfort zone.

The element of Kindness is associated with all the variants of living creatures. Its discordant opposite is Cruelty.

The Element of Kindness manifests as a gold necklace with a pink butterfly-shaped opal.

Kindness Traits[edit]

You have a big heart and you care for others around you. You may be quiet, shy, and timid, but you have a big heart. You are always nice, even if it means giving up your life. You always put yourself before others, and you would want nothing more than to help someone in need.

Kindness Talent Trees:[edit]

  • Providence
  • Vindicator

Laughter[edit]

Laughter represents a character’s cheerfulness, positivity, and upbeat energy, as well as their ability to inspire and encourage others. While this can lead to seemingly inexplicable behavior, and can be a front for self-confidence issues, it also means that the character tends to create the positive atmosphere they most thrive in. A character who is full of laughter runs the risk of becoming unsettled if their outlook is shaken at all, and requires stability in others.

The element of Laughter is associated with the pristine sky. Its discordant opposite is Despair.

The Element of Laughter manifests as a gold necklace with a blue balloon-shaped topaz.

Laughter Traits[edit]

You are very, very funny and random, almost to a point where people might think you are a little coo-coo. You are always going around cheering people up. Sometimes you are a bit hyper but that doesn’t matter to your friends as long as you keep them happy. You use your gift of laughter to overcome fear and sorrow, and to uplift your friends and everyone around you.

Laughter Talent Trees:[edit]

  • Jester
  • Strawberry

Loyalty[edit]

Loyalty represents a character’s willingness to choose their friends and loved ones over personal gain. While this can lead to complete reliance upon support from friends, and thus, confidence issues, it also means that they can achieve things they never thought possible in the service of their friends. A character who is loyal runs the risk of becoming dependent on the approval and even reverence of their friends and loved ones, and often goes out of their way to prove (sometimes unnecessarily) that they are valuable to those friends and loved ones.

The element of Loyalty is associated with the steadfast mountains. Its discordant opposite is Severance.

The Element of Loyalty manifests as a gold necklace with a red thunderbolt -shaped ruby.

Loyalty Traits[edit]

You're very loyal even if you don’t show it. You may brag at times, but you are good friend nevertheless. You always stick up for your friends even if it means giving up your hopes and dreams. You are faithful to your family, friends, and lovers and would never abandon them. Sometimes it means risking your dreams, but you know it's for the best.

Loyalty Talent Trees:[edit]

  • Confidence
  • Attentiveness

Magic[edit]

Magic represents a character’s sense of wonder, worth, and specialness. In short, rather than directly referring to spellcasting and power of that nature, magic refers to a character’s ability to recognize what makes someone or something special (or magical) through their own sense of wonder at the world. While this can lead to a reluctance to show off their own specialness, or even a feeling of disconnection from other things (the feeling of being an ‘observer’ instead of interacting with the world), it also means that they often have a unique perspective on things which others lack. A character with magic runs the risk of trying to understand everything, and can suffer from a tendency to diminish their own self-worth.

The element of Magic is associated with the shining stars. Its discordant opposite is the Void.

The Element of Magic manifests as a gold tiara with a magenta star-shaped tourmaline.

Magic Traits[edit]

The element of Friendship is the first and the last of the elements. The one to complete the circle. You have all the other elements within you, combining them into more than the sum of its parts.

Magic Talent Trees:[edit]

  • Friendship
  • Magic
