Der Buchladen befindet sich in einer Seitenstraße in Hamburg Rotherbaum und geht auf das Jahr 1853 zurück, als Carl-Ludwig Thiele den Laden gründete. Das Unternehmen hat also eine längere Geschichte, als der wohl bekannteste Hamburger Buchhändler (Thalia). Das Geschäft befand sich ursprünglich in einem Hamburger Vorort, nach dem Krieg kaufte Carl Thieles Großvater allerdings ein Gebäude in der Innenstadt, ließ einen neuen Keller ausheben und ein neues Haus errichten.
